Successful GMC restoration

Today I had another successful restoration application hearing, this time with the GMC. Those who’ve read my blog and testimonials before will remember that I have an excellent record with restoration applications, having only ever been unsuccessful with one (that client unfortunately had a meltdown when giving evidence ).

This hearing was the culmination of my first time working on the same side (usually we are opponents!) as the fantastic Wafa Shah of 33 Bedford Row.

My client had been struck off for dishonesty over an extended period and relating to the lapse of their Professional Indemnity Insurance.

When my client came to me, it was two weeks before their hearing. On viewing the papers, it was instantly plain to me that they were not ready and that they would not be successful. So, I had the hearing postponed and in the interim, advised my client as to all of the steps that needed to be taken in order to maximise our chances. Those steps took some months and this is why I always counsel potential clients to come to me and start our preparations well in advance of making a restoration application.

My well-briefed client then performed excellently in the witness box and with all of the preparatory work we had undertaken, it did seem likely that the application would be granted.

And so it was. My client now has to complete some simple administrative arrangements with the GMC and with their Royal College in preparation for their return to practice as a Consultant Doctor.

At a time where there is such pressure on medical staff, it is such a pleasure to be able to help out by assisting a highly competent professional back onto the register.

Now onto the next one!
